From a Crossroads Home to a Modern City
Owens Cross Roads takes its name from Thomas J. Owens, who built the first home at the road intersection in the early 1800s; the settlement first appeared on maps in 1850 and stayed a cotton-economy community, like the rest of the Tennessee Valley, until the boll weevil forced diversification in the 1920s-30s. It incorporated in 1967 and became a city in October 2022.
